She took my strength—
She took my faith in Jesus,
Lorna took my life away from
Me, she drained me dry
To the bone, all the sap from
My tree, my prison days and
Nights went by like slow
Shadows, none of my dumb
Lutheran congregation took
Pity in their hearts for me,
No more Sunday School jive,
All of my secret thoughts
They knew behind my lying
Pensive Night of the Iguana
Brows, my defrocked eyes
Of sorrow, my soul plagued
By the Devil’s Curse, there in
Emporia I’d lusted for another
man’s wife, she haunted me,
haunted me for the rest of
my crummy so-called life.
