Trainwatching Lit

TRAINWATCHING LIT

“…as in theater, a play is a representation
of an event, while a film is a representation
of a representation… Nothing pejorative is
intended here, of course: all art is artifice;
it is this artifice, this metaphorical distancing
which gives art its reality, its power.”
—Edward Albee, Stretching My Mind:
The Collected Essays

Movies bore me now—
The same with TV sitcoms
I’m more into Trainwatching

Out here west of Emporia—
The Naked Ape Human Factor
Seems to be more distant

The way the BNSF trains—
Wail away at the crossings
Seems more real to me

It gives reality its artform—
I’m bored to death anyway
So here I sit enjoying it
